Members of the South West TrailRiders Association travel on their 100 mile trail through on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2024 in Brazoria County, Texas. The Black cowboy group will converge in Houston’s Memorial Park with three other Black Cowboy groups for the opening ceremonies of the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston. The SWTRA was established in 1993 has awarded approximately $200,000 in scholarship funds to high school seniors in the Houston, Harris and surrounding counties, sponsored animals for agricultural students, host annual Fun Day to provide a safe and fun atmosphere for children, donate toys and bikes annually to Houston area churches, schools and multi-purpose centers for Christmas as well as an annual school supply drive for area students returning to school.
