NEWARK, NEW JERSEY: Community leader Anthony Diaz of the Newark Water Coalition appears during Newark’s water coalition occupy newark city hall action in Newark, NJ on Friday, December 1, 2023. The Coalition’s actions was on behalf of the housing crisis in Newark for the underserved. The coalition established a 24 hour action that began midnight on Friday and ran through midnight the next day. A group of nearly a dozen supporters stood the 30 degree temps, rain and wind. Put up at least five tents and and sleeping quarters on the top steps of City.
According to community leader Diaz the Newark city Police cited the coalition was in violation of city ordinance but later police stated “The mayor doesn’t like the tents up and that Newark Department of Public Works would have them removed, Diaz said.” The Coalition provide food, water and clothing for volunteers and supporters.
