NORLINA, NC - MARCH 13: Farmer Preston Williams sits on his ATV at his Seven Springs farm and winery on March 23, 2021 in Norlina, North Carolina. Williams owns the 130 plus acre farm that he purchased in 1987.
He and his family began farming trees, Pines, Maples, and Poplars. “Once the trees were harvested, we began to raise cattle on 50 acres of the land.”
“In 2017 we decided to open of the land and visited 50-70 vineyards.” “We developed a five year plan. In 2018 Seven Springs opened up to wine tasting and in 2019 they put in a pond..
“2020 we partnered with a winery out of Roxboro, NJ that grew the same grapes we grow… put our recipes together and then began bottling our wines and we were able to open two and a half years early. “We opened on Juneteenth, 2020.”
“We’re three years into our plan, putting in our stage for musicians, bathrooms, cabanas, wedding events, family reunions, sip and paint, sip and puff, and our first annual biking event,”
By year four we’re expecting our winery in, but are in the middle of state processing .” Seven Springs expect their first harvest of muscadines and they planted 13 varieties including table and market grapes. (Photo by Brian B Price /for The Washington Post)
