Black Cowboys and Cowgirls and wagon trains ride in their third leg of the 67th annual Prairie View Trail Riders Association100 mile journey on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 in Waller County, Texas. The Black cowboy group will converge in Houston’s Memorial Park with three other Black Cowboy groups for the opening ceremonies of the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in Houston. The PVTRA was founded in 1957 and their purpose is to promote agricultural interest in young Americans and to perpetuate those principles and methods which have come to be regarded as the ideals and traditions of the Western World as well as the black Western Heritage. It serves as a booster for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and supports Prairie View A&M University in their educational programs. (Brian Branch-Price/thefotodesk)
